When I first started this venture I searched for someplace that was free to post a business ad to. Just to get my name on as many spots as possible. I am, however, hoping to start fresh and often. I also am wanting to strengthen my teaching homework and try it as well... A-Z artist show and tell.

The objective...to highlight an artist of my choice, any artistic period, any artistic style. Last name must start with letter of the week and there must be enough information out there via the information highway, old fashioned books, magazines, etc. to provide my show and tell report. Although I can't speak for others and what artists they would choose (though I'd hope they would reach out there and find an artist that they really liked) I am going to try to choose artists that aren't household names (VanGough) but speak to me as an artist and hopefully others as well.

Week one... Artist A- Hans Arp, 1886-1966.

Hans Arp was best associated with the Dada movement. In Munich, he met and worked with Kandinsky and took part in the second Der Blaue Reiter exhibition. Arp worked in collages of torn paper pushing the experimental and irrational boundaries of artistic creation. He also worked with wood cutouts. In 1915 in Zurich, he co-founded the Dada movement, working closely with Max Ernst. (Take note of these names, their artwork is amazing). The Dada artists believed that chance was a way to relinquish control. From here, he settled in Paris and became rooted in Surrealism where he became known for sculpture.

1 2 3

1. It was an ok movie, I learned what I didn't know about the artist, but when I say annoyed I mean by art critics. If you know Jackson Pollock's work, you know the "splatter" paintings. This is what Pollock is known for. But his earlier works go unrecognized. Why?

vs

I'm sure a majority of the reason why art critics, galleries, and enthusiasts embraced this technique is because it was unseen before. But, I find his earlier works so captivating. I wonder why they were dismissed. Based on the movie, they didn't sell at all. They were cliche or seen already. Nothing special. I think they're gorgeous! Of course, in a time when he was up against Picasso, they may not relate but I still think they're worth looking at. Whoops. So how do you overcome that crucial mind reading lack? I like to use the trusted brief method. You can tailor your briefs to reflect your company and what you want to know, but you get the jist.

Must know questions?
1. Corporate profile
2. Market position
3. Current situation
4. Marketing/advertising/communications background
5. Target message
6. Target audience
7. Budget
8. Deadline
9. Objective

From there, get creative and ask questions that reflect you and what you need to know to achieve the best end result. Such as?
